Fabrication of the Vectrix Superbike Model
Beginning with the rendering above the Vectrix Rmoto Superbike came to life, see the progression from concept to model below. This model was created to emphasize and acknowledge the energy found within our clients technology and we view it as a celebration of exactly that. The concept was brought to reality by first creating a 2D negative cutout of the profile, then creating a clay model of the desired concept direction. We then tweaked and manipulated the clay model at lightening speed in order to achieve the final look and maintain client schedule. Once finalized we digitized the model and created plugs with our DMS 5-axis router, then laid up one-off fiberglass reienforced plastic parts to fabricate the body panels. The panels were mated with a hand fabricated skeleton/frame structure, custom machined wheels, molded lights and lenses, suspension, brakes, cables, a hand made seat and so on. After hours of trimming panels, manipulating parts and test fitting we achieved a tight fit and finished the model below. The final model debuted at the 2007 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. This model is currently on its second European tour and fundraising for a limited production run. Learn more at www.vectrix.com.
